New to the list. I just bought my first Shopsmith. A used 1981 model with 1 1/8 HP motor. Tested it before I bought it. Started up fine. got home, set it up and it started running slower and slower. Then stopped. then would continually blow a breaker. Now i have a new to me non working shopsmith. Any help in where to located used, rebuilt motor or head? Can spend what it takes for a new one unless some has a good source for low priced new motors.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm in Dallas, TX. I really don't want to ship this out to be fixed. Thank you.

I am by no means an expert on the newer SS as mine is an old Greenie but I would take the belt off of the motor to make sure that all of the interworkings are turning freely. IF everything is rotating freely then I would take the motor down to the local electric motor shop there in town and have them test the motor. I know the shop here in Spokane, WA tested mine for free when I was restoring mine.

Good suggestion. Make sure it is the motor causing all this first.

I have a rebuilt AO Smith 1 1/8 HP available for less money. Yes, shipping costs can be reasonable (max of $25) depending on the seller. I have rebuilt and shipped dozens of these motors without any shipping damage. I just had not got around to taking pictures and posting it on Ebay. The Mark VII motor is different(not directly interchangable with other models).
