I've got a lower saw guard and have been looking for an upper. I might be able to pick one up this week but I'm curious if there are different versions. Does it mount to the lower or the table?

Yes there are different versions. The 510, 520 and new Mark 7 all share the same design. Models prior to the 510 had very different designs. They don't mix and match. You need to make sure your lower plays well with any upper you are looking for.

So could I pick up the lower guard that matches the one I showed and be good to go? Or is it a table issue. Sorry if that's a silly question, I don't know how the saw guards work/attach.

No, the lower blade guard is different because the table is larger on the Model 510+. The previous poster is incorrect. Except for the original Model 10 all SS are a Mark 5/V. The difference is the model number of the MK V. The saw guard you picture is for a Model 500. It will not fit the newer Model 510+ machines because the lower saw guard is different due to the larger table on the 510+ machines.

Ok? So to completely clarify and keep me from guessing, can you post a picture of the upper saw guard I need to match my current lower guard? Also, if any, what options do I have to guy a set of upper/lower guards together? Given my table is a 510 (I think).

You definitely have a '510'.

Your lower guard is correct.

Go with lyall's pix.

BTW if the rip fence is clamped down, it is not aligned correctly to the miter slot/blade. It is closer at the blade exit(a recipe for kick-back).

P.S. the bandsaw belongs on the other end. ;)

Haha, dang, you saw that. If you recall, I just recently picked up the two shopsmiths. I haven't even began using them, so yeah, I'm sure the bandsaw (and jointer) are in the wrong spots. Just had to get them out of the way. I actually just came across your thread on adjusting the bandsaw (http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewtopic.php?t=8542). That's the last thing I think I need to do before I really start using the setup.
