I just put on a new drive belt. After turning the speed control to fast, turning off, and adjusting the stop screw all the way until it stops against the porkchop,the speed dial will not go any lower than drum sand. The belt is 3/4 inch from the top of the motor sheaves and the porkchop stop screw is protruding 1/8" past it's jam nut. I don't know if I can loosen this set screw much more and still get the speed dial on. I watched the SS adjustment video, but it doesn't go this deep into adjustment. I tried to post some pics of the belt sitting in the sheaves, but get the notice below and do not know how to remedy it:
"The attachment’s file size is too large, the maximum upload size is 2 MB.
Please note this is set in php.ini and cannot be overridden."

Where to 'start'.

Assuming the speed control dial is 'off'-

Let's start with the 'high speed stop adjustment'.

I suggest manual rotation of the pulleys/belts when moving the speed control dial throughout this.

First ignore the outer dial. That is set next to last.

As a starting point, run that stop screw down flush with the top of the jam nut.

Run the speed control up until the quadrant gear (porkchop) butts up against the stop screw.

The motor belt should be near the top of the motor pulley and deep inside the idler shaft pulley.

Re install the speed control knob and while manually rotating the pulleys, adjust the speed control towards slow until it will not go further.

The belt should be near the top of the motor pulley and deep inside the idler pulley.

It should be safe to turn it on.

Run the speed control back up to fast. Turn it off.

Perform the high speed adjustment properly. The outer ring gear will be set within.
Replace the speed control knob.

While I was the one who created the document, which JPG converted to a PDF file that was enclosed, that doesn't mean it will work perfectly. I have a similar problem after three adjustments, with the same result. JPG's solution is probably the second best. The best is to learn to live with it.

I don't know why one would "live" with a condition that is not OEM unless you are unwilling to replace the parts to bring the machine back to OEM standards. SS machines can all be rebuilt to new condition. Maybe it is because the re-builder does not know how to do it correctly.

Maybe!

Not ALL parts are 'available'.

There is a point of practicality. A 'new' set of parts is not the same as something 'rebuilt'. Brought to full functionality, yes, but it is not rebuilt, but rather replaced.


BTW this thread is about getting normal functionality after a belt replacement.

There is a difference between 'liking'(fantasizing) and actual 'doing'. In the end rationality must prevail.

I've tried the above suggestions and I thank you for the replies. However, after trying them, I'm back to the original problem. The speed starts slowing down after I keep turning past the "route" setting.

I'm looking for a knowledgeable repair person within 3 hours, or so, of the very NE corner of Missouri. St. Louis is about 3 hours south of me.

And the motor belt? How wide is it across the top of the belt? Is it slipping on the motor pulley(too far out on the pulley)?

I have concluded you also need a new motor belt(from SS Inc. since after market belts are too narrow(<1/2")).

I put on a new belt and it's started to chew it up as well.
