Has anyone ever mounted these to anything other than a Shopsmith or SS tool stand?
They mention mounting them to a workbench.

I have been trying to locate casters that I could mount to my work bench and so far all that lock still move too much to work for a steady workbench.
I then thought of lowering the legs and other ways but they all involve too much messing around cranking them down and up.

Then Shopsmith sent out this E-mail special and I'm considering it. I wonder how much weight they will handle? I wonder how much clearance you need to operate the lifting lowering mech.

Tomorrow I will study my SS and see if these may adapt to my work bench.
I would love to hear from anyone that has done it.

I've been looking at this for my workbench, but I would have to move my lower shelf, and I have too much on my plate right now.

I haven't done it, but in studying them, you need about 6 inches clearance for the three lever gear + shoe to clear any obstructions above. Also, you need the gears to clear the side of the workbench as well, about 4".

I think that PTWFE showed them being used on a workbench by cutting 2x4s to set them at the proper angle. Either that or an old Hands On mag.

I've seen a couple at Woodcraft that came close, but the SS caster setup is the best design by a long shot for anything that needs a solid footing.

Maybe SS can produce a straight up, as well as tilted caster, as a new product line. Lots of people want mobile tools, and this would be an excellent solution for them and added income for SS.

I seen a workbench with retractable wheels on DIY, it worked with one simple lever.

I think Nick could have a new shop tip with this.

I've searched for retractible casters and haven't found anything decent but would love to mount them to non-shopsmith stuff, like work tables, etc.

The 10ER retractable casters are for straight vertical end cabinets/benches. They can be mounted on the inside or the outside of the ends.

It works real well. I used 1/8" metal plate to make a set for the outside of a cabinet.

Ed, I found a page in the manuals that came with my 1955 model ShopSmith. It shows how to make a workbench with retractable Casters. It is in a 1952 book that was included with my Greenie. I will try and scan it into a pdf and put it where everyone can use it. It uses the Retractable Casters and both end legs.

Will the retractable casters for the 510/520 fit the Power Stand for individual SPT's?
