Rip Scale Upgrade

I have a Mark V I bought back in October 1084. I want to do some upgrades and I'm wondering if the Rip Scale will work on my original table. The description says as follows; "522377 Front Rail for Main Mark V Table
(for Pre-1986 main saw tables) ... $70.51
(Item may be on back-order or is made upon ordering. Note: For use with Model 520 Pro Fence System Mark V's only." I'm guessing that since my is a 500, it won't fit. Can someone confirm it either way?
Thanks
Danny

The 'pre 1986' has to with the two 510 versions that required different 520 rails when they were upgraded to a 520.

It will not work with your machine. The front fence of a 520 is totally different then on a 500.

You do have the option, and an expensive one at that, but getting the 500 to 520 upgrade gets you the scales and bigger table and lots of nice features like the beefier rip fence better guards and much much more. I did the upgrade of my 1976 model to the 520 as well as the powerpro and dual tilt so it is pretty much a new machine and has all the bells and whistles of the news stuff they sell.

The scale is actually placed on part of the rail for the 520 fence. The 520 system was sold for a time without the area the scale sits on. This kit actually replaces the front rail of the older style 520. I have the 520 system but do not have the scale. I figured with the ability to adjust the saw blade in and out, the scale would have to be adjusted for zero each time you moved the table or quill. It was just easier to measure the fence setting to be accurate.

Besides it is way past time to update a 931 year old Mark V.

The more I think about it, is there a solution for me wanting a rip scale that would fit my old 500? It seems to be easier to use that scale rather than keep measuring the distance from the saw blade.
Thanks again.

Get an inexpensive metal rule, 36 inches long or so, that you can slip under the fence and measure off a tooth aka "The $3 Self-Zeroing 36" Direct Reading Rip Scale." http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 15#p138615
