de-rust saw blades

Should I use a corrosive agent to derust shopsmith brand saw blades or any saw blade for that matter?
They are still sharp and un rusty at the tips... but the blades themselves are fairly corroded.

NO, don't use a corrosive agent. Use something like evapo-rust.

I thought evapo rust was corrosive!!

It isn't.
It does not attack metals.
It converts rust by chelation.

I used to do a good bit of sharpening as a kind of side service in our store but I stayed away from most saws except for myself and a few friends. The quick and easy money was from scissors, pinking shears, chainsaws and garden tools. I also did stuff like most shop tools and a surprising number of electric hedge trimmers.
Back then (pre-internet) I followed the trade reading stuff like the Belsaw Bulletin and other trade papers. At that time blade polishers like the one shown were being pushed for the professional sharpening shops and suggested for use on all blades that were less than perfect. Like most things such polishing should be done only in moderation.
I don't really get it done like I should but I like storing my stacks of "extra" seldom used blades with a piece of oily paper / light cardboard between them. Of course a coat of JPW is also good.
