Maple with a super glue finish. I'm not too sure how I like super glue as a finish yet.

I'm working that way. I spent Saturday morning cutting a bunch of blanks and I'll get a few more turned for practice before I get fancy.
This one was about 3 1/2" round and about the same tall.

How does the super glue finish work?

Nice box! Turning is great as you get something really nice in a short period of time!
For finish, I would recommend the two products below. Both are applied while the work is on the lathe and leave a food safe finish that is hard to beat. Plus less mess and glued fingers than CA glue!
Sand out to whatever you like (I generally do 800 on small boxes) then use the EE Shine followed by 3 coats of Shellawax Cream.

I just put it on with a paper towel while it's spinning. I used medium viscosity. Some spots looked good but even after several coats with sanding between it seemed to show a lot of lines in the finish.
