Well, sometimes you have to take a break from turning to do flatwork to keep the wife happy. So she wanted a new Quilt rack and I found this plan online. Looked simple (don't they always!) so I gave it a shot. Now I know why biscuits, pocketscrews and morticing machines were invented! Turns out it's harder than you think to make those little tenons and keys!

Anyway, if you squint just right, it doesn't look too bad, the wife likes it and now I turn more wood!

Well it looks nice, now you know why flat work is work, compared to turning. Not that turners dont make beautiful things.

LMAO! And it's also why turners still have all their fingers! Thanks for the reply, it was an interesting break from turning.

The hardest part was cutting the square holes in the tenons to accept the keys. No wonder this stuff cost a fortune when you buy it from real furniture stores. If I get talked into doing this again, I'm using biscuits!

If she wants another one how about spindle turning the bits where the quilts rest on? That way you get to turn and the pesky holes can be round.

If you dont have a mortiser one way to make them is drill them out with a Forstner Bit and the square the ends up and the walls with a chisel. Tenons are pretty easy with just a table saw and or with a router if you have a router table.
OR just get your wife to like Shaker Style and turn everything.
