As you can tell from the last post, flatwork is not my best skill but I love making bandsaw boxes. I get most of my designs from this book: http://www.amazon.com/Building-Beautifu ... awbox+book

The picture is of a box I made for a friend of mine that collects watches. It's mahogany with a maple center and maple pulls. I used the DON-JER mini-flocker to line the drawers. Finish is Danish Oil and wax with lots of elbow grease.

These things make great gifts too. I had a similar box go for $75 at a silent auction recently which surprised the heck out of me!

Looks great! I've always wanted to do one of these but never have gotten around to it.

Tom that is great, if you have time to make many, based on you silent action, might be a way to earn some Cha Ching.
My Bro has more watches then time, I always struggle for a gift, going to order up that book, I need some inspiring/challenging projects, since I dont need any for myself any more at this time.

Can we see a shot with the drawers closed? I'm still trying to figure out what holds it all together! It appears that the top is cantilevered, but then what keeps the top drawer in place?

The drawers are open, with the lower drawer more fully extended. Not visible is the web between.

Think that cantilever being 'E' shaped. You only see the 'top'.

Very nice. These are beautiful boxes and I've made several and given away. The book states that these are not for sale. But, I'm not sure that the bandsaw box police would search for you, either.

What holds it together is the back. First, you cut out the overall shape, then cut off the back. Then cut out the drawers. I always glue the back on before sanding as I have had some wood crack on me while trying to sand without the back. The book is well worth the price. If you can find it for under $25, you are getting a deal. Then you can take the patterns to a print shop and have it enlarged to actual size. Hope to see more of these as they fit easily on the Shopsmith bandsaw.
