Casters for Routing System

I recently purchased a used Shopsmith Routing System, aka stand alone Overarm Pin Router, and I would like to add a set of casters. Shopsmith no longer sells the appropriate casters, which were also used for the Jointmatic. They do sell casters for the SPT stands and a different set of casters for the scroll saw -

Does anyone have experience adapting either set to the Routing System stand? Any help and/or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Are there holes in the right place?

Compare the leg spacing to the Mark 5/V.

Use spacers if needed.

Hi Mike,

I have no experience with the OPR or the Jointmatic. Having said that as far as I know all SS castors are the same (not 10ER). the difference is that some of the stands are a slightly different dimension (width). The MK V and their castors are approximately 16" wide. If you look at the pictures in the links you sited they are exactly the same. Stock photos. The Scroll saw castor kit comes with a set of brackets to adapt the standard SS castors. The legs on the Scroll saw are very different from the other stands. I made a set of those adapters for my Scroll saw from Baltic Birch ply.

The other stands only require spacers as you can see in the SS photos. If the legs on your OPR are drilled and around 16" apart they will take standard SS castors. SS has never made radical changes to their products so I suspect the current (only) castors will fit.

Check out this link for some background and a link to photos. It was posted by a different Dennis, BTW.

My own used OPR came with the casters and brackets, but the side braces were MIA. Later I bought a rusty basket-case OPR for parts. I have the caster brackets from that one, if you need them, and also some extra SS casters. All the steel parts are a bit rusty, so some elbow grease would be required to make them nice. Yours for the shipping cost, if you want them.

I had seen those pictures, and thanks for the very generous offer. I've sent you a PM.

Thanks, again,

Mike
