So this weekend I continued to find more uses for scrap from my scroll saw shelf in my other thread. So far this is what is complete since I wanted to get a traveling trophy for my Risk Games... (Europe is still drying Btw, and nothing is glued down) (oh and I'll stain the frame too)
It's based entirely on using scrap so Asia got a little choppy. The frame is a 2x4 piece. The only money I spend on it was stain. (now what to do with a quart of blue wood stain...)

Of course I don't have to be cheap... And use proper hardwoods of sufficient size...
This one my father made for me a few years back... Cost more than my stain I bet...

I really like those cool-looking corner-bracket things on your father's version, and I just salted away the photo so that I could steal the idea sometime when I make a frame. It appears that they would add some substantial mechanical reinforcement, in addition to looking cool.

But then I got to wondering. Were those corner brackets planned all along, or were they invented in order to hide a bad miter joint? If the latter, I'm even more impressed with them!

Nifty Idea, Beave! I like everything about it. Don't know anything about risk games, but, like your Dad's, makes a interesting wall hanging.

I don't play but I think it's a great idea and well executed.

I do play, and I do know a lot about Risk...and I still think it's awesome!!

Would be an awesome thing to crank out on a CNC for gifts, etc. Though that might take the "fun" out of all that scroll sawing...

I honestly made this in around 2 hours plus staining... Super easy to make (love the idea of natural borders because no one can tell how exact you are on a coast line or following a river).

I could probably make around 8 a weekend. Lol, cheap and easy.
