I just got my PowerPro headstock delivered yesterday, and was extremely happy, except for 2 problems, both related to the quill.

1.) The quill feed spring had essentially negative tension on it, and felt like it slipped when I first fed out the quill. I was then unable to return the quill all the way back (about 3/4" remained extended). This was relatively easy to fix, and I just pulled the quill, and re-tensioned the spring per the manual. No problem, and it works great now.

Problem the second.) The quill depth dial is mis-aligned from the indicator. Not a huge deal, as it can only go so far in either direction before hitting the stop, but rather than that stop being lined up with the bump/set-screw on the casing, it is somewhere close to diametrically opposed (so on the underside).

So, my question is, can I pop the lead plug out of that set screw cover, loosen the housing and rotate it to the proper position?

Regardless of whether these issues are user-fixable, the apparent lack of quality control is distressing. How can Shopsmith ship a Power Pro headstock with these issues?

NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you are not accounting for the 'detail' that the 'stop' is adjustable and the dial is an indicator for that, not the quill distance travel.

Loosen the quill stop wingnut, rotate the 'dial' counter clockwise till it stops. The index mark(not the set screw) should now be at zero. Leave the wing nut loose until you need to set the stop.

Also the quill housing is "D" shaped in a "D" shaped hole and therefore cannot rotate. Ponder fer a spell as to why that is a 'good' thing.


Apparently the quill spring pin was not fully seated in the keyhole slot at Mother's house(or the 'vendor'). You got lucky it got seated properly when you set the tension..

I do hope Admin is watching. Lack of clamp in another thread and now this.

Yes, we already checking on the issue with the clamp. Through an oversight, the clamp is not currently listed to be included with any of the items usually purchased together (fence, MARK 7, etc.), but is obviously needed. We are checking which sku (item number) should include the clamp, so that it gets to those needing it, without duplication.

I bought my Mark 7 in 2014 and bought the shaper fence setup and I didn't get the clamp either, should I have? Do I need to call and speak to someone, I have always just used the Tnut and hated the guard, now I understand how it is supposed to work.

I think so! Whatever that is worth!
