That's really cool!

If I ever had to make a pulley, I would try turning one on the lathe.

Good to see another SS item saved from the dump!!!!!!!!

Ron, Thanks for sharing this with us!

Well it was interesting. I haven't purchased a pulley in years but if they still cost less then $10 I would have gone that way.

He still needs a table insert, given the cnc that would have been a better task then the pulley in my way of thinking.

It was cool how he did the front cover... so I'll give him a plus on that and the saving of the bandsaw is worth a couple of points. How about 7 out of 10?

He also said that he could not find a nut for the 1/2" arbor. It looks like a SS arbor and the thread is 1/2-24. You will not find that in any big box store. They are available but you will have to look.

Standard thread for 1/2" is either 13 or 20 so I agree it unlikely you will find them in a hardware store or big box store.

If he were to just mount the a standard pulley on shaft he would have been better off, those you might well find in a hardware store or farm/tractor place.

Huh

It looks like a SS 1/2" arbor. It is 5/8" with a set screw to fit the BS shaft (or is the BS shaft 1/2"?). Either way he was talking about the threaded end. I said 1/2-24 but actually it is 1/2-28 which is UNF-EXF. Very hard to find.

I was just out looking at the threads with a thread gauge. The 1/2-24 is correct so you were right the first time. The 5/8" arbor is 18tpi which is standard, well that and 11tpi.

So that is the story and the more I think about his pulley solution I'm going to drop that to 6 out of 10. I just checked pulley prices on amazon and they are still cheap....

Hmmm... The thread chart I am looking at is...

UNC 1/2-13 UNF 1/2-20 UNEF 1/2-28

I'm using a thread gauge and it is what it is. 28 is not even close and 24 fits like a glove and not an OJ glove. I can take a picture if you want but these thread gauges don't don't fib.
