Hello everyone. I just received today a dado arbor 5/8" and was wondering if anyone can tell me the proper way to place the washers to connect the dado blades. I received 2 hardened washers. 1 washer with a tab to place into the groove on the arbor. and 1 large thick washer. What is the proper placement of these washers???

It depends on the thickness of the dado stack.

The goal is to build the dado stack as far as possible to the end of the threaded section of the arbor while still having enough thread to put the tabbed washer in place and last but not least fully seat the nut at the very end. The reason to build the dado stack as far to the right of the arbor as possible is so that the dado can come up through the table insert without the threaded part of the arbor interfering with the table tie bar.

Thus, depending on the thickness of the dado stack you are building, you will put the thick or thin washers on, either singly or in combinations, then dado stack, then tabbed washer, then nut.

It cannot be emphasize enough that you must always put the tabbed washer on immediately to the right of the dado stack, followed by the nut. The nut should be fully on (ideally threaded section of arbor flush to end of nut and with no thread sticking out; but better to have thread sticking out than to have the nut not fully on).

The thick washer (spacer) goes on first depending on the thickness of the dado blade. The end of the threaded shaft should always be past the nut. The two thin washers go on each side of the blade or molder head with the recessed sides in. The keyed washer should always be just under the nut.

I have a vague recollection that the proper assembly order is shown in an illustration on the back of the cardboard packaging insert. But right now, I'm feeling too lazy to go downstairs and check.

IIWM, I would have already posted it. Safety takes precedence over copyright. Besides if SS finds it objectionable, it will disappear.
