The Shopsmith that made products in the 1950's was not the same ownership and management that made them in the 1970's or 80's.

In 2009, the ownership filed for reorganization, and in 2010 the present company owned and manned by a few employees of the former company, took it over and introduced the Mark 7 line.

Many of the parts interchange, and one can often apply the newer safety features to even the oldest machines. Equally, many improvements through the years can be in play, and sometimes a few things have to be changed together to be compatible.

Shopsmith will help you determine what you need and get you the appropriate part if they manufacture it, or one of their suppliers do. Like any business, they certainly have minimum order quantities they have to satisfy as well if they are ordering from a supplier who has to tool up to make it.

eBay and Craigslist are valid sources, but one needs to validate that the part they are buying is appropriate for the vintage machine you have.

Forum members are skilled at helping out there. Pictures, Pictures, Pictures... go a long way to helping get the answers you need from folks here who are willing to help you. Someday, you will offer that same help to others beginning their Shopsmith journey I suspect.
