Kreg Miter Gauge

Not sure if this should be in this forum or under maintenance/repair but I received the Kreg Miter Gauge system as a birthday present and want so badly to use it with my Mark V but of course the miter bar is just slightly too big. Has anyone had good results from filing or sanding down a non-SS miter bar to work with their SS? What methods worked best? Is there anything you would definitely NOT try?

They discussed this in another thread some time ago. I will find it. Ok it is in https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... 455#p33455

Gene Howe stated in that 2009 post 'When they first offered their miter gauge, I contacted them about milling on for me. They called SS for the specs and I had the gauge in a week. I've heard since that they now offer a SS version.'

If he had his in a week back then, I just bet you could exchange it for the one that fits. They might even send you just the bar so you could swap it out and still keep the original gifted item.

I called Customer Service at 1-800-447-8638 and they say they only make the fence now

Shopsmith sells the sliding miter bars separately at http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... erbars.htm

The Kreg fellow said they use some pressed in parts which you might have to adapt to use the Shopsmith bar in its place. Might work, might not, but would be a probable better option at less cost than machining the Kreg bar.

There is a bar for each type with and without the T slot.

If you can't jury rig a Shopsmith bar (or a homemade one) onto the Kreg, check out Incra tools. They have superior miter gauges that fit Shopsmiths perfectly.

Probably a valid statement Chris but he already owns a Kreg Miter Gauge System that was a birthday gift. All that is needed now is a miter bar that fits in the Shopsmith unique under sized miter slot.

I don't believe you really want to modify Kreg the miter bar.

However, Incra does sell a miter bar that is compatible with the Shopsmith table. So does Shopsmith. Drilling and taping holes is all that would be required to fit your Kreg on an Incra or Shopsmith miter bar.

I have both. If you would provide a sketch of the hole arrangement (including hole size and thread, I will check to see what has to be done to make that transition.

This sketch does not include all of the detail. It shows only the hole locations that are used for something other than the width adjusters.
There is another Incra bar used on their V120. I will sketch that an add it to this post later.

I just noticed that I left off the critical dimensions. The three holes are located 1/2", 1" and 7" respectively from the end of the bar.

I just re-read my earlier post. I want to be clear that i did not intend to imply that Kreg tools were inferior to Incra. They are not. Both are great companies. I only meant that Incra has tools specifically designed to fit a Shopsmith. They also sell parts separately. :)

I re-read it just now and I do not see where you said anything derogatory about either Incra or Kreg.

Now that I look at real close, I don't know what the Incra miter bar is for. It fits nicely in the Shopsmith miter track but the holes do not match either the V120 or the Shopsmith protractor.

I have been using it as a filler for one of the miter tracks on my Mark V. It is steel (magnetic), which allows me to attach items like the Wixey or iGage.
