Ok, I know I'm not that bright but this one is a bit odd. I ordered a new blade from SS for the bandsaw, a 521986.

Got it, unpackaged it and fitted it to the bandsaw. I'm at least bright enough to put the pointy parts forward and then tension and it all seemed good.

Did a test cut on pine, no problem but seemed as dull as my last blade. Did a test cut on maple and red oak and it burned the sides so bad as to be useless, although the smoke smelled good. So in looking at the blades, it looks like to me, the points of the hooks are facing UP. My assumption is they would face down.

So what am I doing wrong? Is there any way to get a blade on upside down? And no, this is not the first blade I've changed on this bandsaw but it's the first one that has burned my wood on a straight cut. Since I paid extra for the premium blade, I'm a bit disappointed and confused at this point.

Flip the blade 180 degrees and then rotate 180 degrees?

Yes, it is possible, if the blade has gotten twisted inside out, (ie the side of the blade that should touch ride on the tire is to the outside) then the teeth will face up instead of down.
I had it happen on one of my blades.

Very common when unpacking a new blade. Take it off the tool and twist it right side down.frustrating, but an easy fix...

Yes there absolutely is a way to get the blade upside down. The image in this thread has the blade upside down. The teeth should point downward. The same thing happens if you put a table saw blade on with the wrong side to the headstock.

You would be attempting to cut with the dull side of the blade.

Maybe you should check the previous blade also.

The last couple blades I unpacked would have mounted with pointed teeth up

Somehow, the blades were or got twisted when unpacking.

The simple fix is to hold the blade firmly with both hands on opposite sides of the blade with thumbs on the outside of the blade. Then move your hands or wrists to bring your thumbs to the inside of the blade. You will feel resistance at first, but then the blade will snap into the correct position.

Funny, the first time I heard of this with BS blades was here. An other thread. I can see it, but never had it happen to me or ever saw a post/thread on Lumber Jocks about it. I have not bought any BS blades from the MS, I choose to go to an other place. So I am going to assume it is a MS packaging problem.

I respect you, and I am sure on LJ if some one had that problem they would have posted it, BUT in the last few months I have seen that here. By different posters, I even questioned it, when JPG or John B explained it, how it happens and how to fix it.
