Hey, Jack Wilson, thanks for those paddles!!!!!

Not sure I know the proper ship lingo but happy launch or wetting or floating.

When I use to do this sort of thing the canoe had a keel, that helped you go in a straight line on a lake but was not as easy to avoid rocks while going down a river.... I guess I'm dating myself as most of the ones I now see have a bottom like yours. This is like the native american versions they made out of birch bark.

We also knelt rather then sitting on seats but they did have seats for setting on when fishing. The front person provided most of the forward motion and the rear person did something called what was it skulling or a word like that where you twist the paddle in or out to determine direction just like you would do if you were along and paddling, only changing sides when you needed to rest your arms by letting them work on the other side rather then swapping back and forth to control direction.

It has been a lot of years since I've done that. Having some good flashbacks at the moment.

You are so right! But don't look gift paddles in the mouth! Forum Member Jack Wilson gave me these paddles when I picked up the Incra 5000 sled from him and I'm very grateful because it might have taken me another year to finish the paddles!

Absolutely beautiful Al. Yes, aluminum paddles but I suspect you will fix that. Man I want to paddle that.

Ed, it is very easy to paddle straight if you know how. I have never seen a canoe with a keel. We used a 22" freighter canoe with a 15 HP motor in Quebec with two small 14' canoes across the gunwales of the freighter. Sorry I degrees.

When you are alone you need some weight in the front. We used to have a rock at each end of the portage. Put it in the front of the canoe going up and leave it there at the end of the portage going down. Always had a small pack of necessary gear so that helped.

Then when you pull the paddle straight back turn it 30-45* clock wise (if you are paddling on the left side) and push out 90* to the side of the canoe. It only takes a bit of pressure depending how fast you are going forward. You can absolutely paddle a straight line without changing sides.

We need a camera man (or woman) on the shore, so that we can see the real star of the show!

Nice to see the boat in its natural habitat! Looks like it moves along nicely with with a minimum of fuss. Thanks for the videos and congratulations on completing the journey from ripping strips to smooth paddling.
