The Eagles Lair Woodshop's name sake is no more. The tree with the Eagle's nest in it blew over last night. They had one chick which probably didn't make it since it could not fly yet.

We had strong easterly down slope winds last night due to the low pressure area that moved across southern Utah and northern Arizona yesterday. The strongest winds here at the house were 31 to 34 MPH both gusts and sustained around midnight. That is not unusual for us here but the tree was probably killed when the Salt Lake hit an all time high water mark back in 1984/85. The area out that way was all under salt water so it has been dead for over 30 years. It was bound to happen eventually and eventually came last night.

The highest reported wind gust was 87 MPH at the mouth of Farmington Canyon which is about 15 miles south of me.

So prop it back up! Or build them, a new one. Or at least make something to honor them from the 'debris'.

I wish I could.

I wonder if the DNR would put in a pole with a platform on top and see if they would start a new nest.

I wonder if the DNR would allow thee to take enough of that tree to make a frame for displaying pix of them.

The problem for me is getting out there. It is in the middle of wet lands and no roads within 1 1/2 miles or so. I am at the end of the road where I am and the tree was about 1 1/2 miles from me according to Google Earth. It took me almost a year searching on Google Earth before I found the tree. There is nothing out there and the tree was bare and the same color as the ground. Finally one day I guess Google Earth updated their pictures and the sun angle was just right and I saw the shadow of the tree with the nest on the ground. Even knowing the tree was right there it was almost impossible to see it.

Well if that is wet lands no way to get a truck out there with an auger, and an utility pole.

Wet salt flat may be more accurate.

The only thing worse is being stuck at SLC airport on Mothers Day for 5 hours and not a bar open anywhere!!!
