My question is: What brand/s of molding knives will fit in the older style Shopsmith molding head? Is it only for Shopsmith knives?
Hi, I'm knew to the Shopsmith world as I just acquired a huge lot of SS tools. It came with all the original paperwork and receipts, and I believe the guy got just about every attachment and accessory (plus a few backups) that came in 1981. Most of it looks unused. So, I'll have many more questions to come.

I have not used them, but for the knives you go by the diameter of the shaft, that the knives go on.

I believe they were made by 'carob', but SS still sells knives that fit the older arbor.
BTW 81 ain't 'old'.

any 1/2" bore shaper cutter should work with the SS 1/2" arbor.
I think the older shaper cutter were made by Rockwell/Delta.
Looking at the SS shaper cutters I got and the Delta shaper cutters,
they measure the same.
I got my grandfather's Delta shaper, that he got back in the 1930's.
I have used several of the cutters on the my SS, but I like using the Delta more.
to help you with using the SS shaper check out the following link

For more info about using a shaper, look at the following link.
It was written back in the 1930's and there is a lot if info (112 pages)

Ya I was not sure, some use the terms together, but I was talking shaper, he was talking molding. Thanks for the separation on that.

Thanks for the input. And the shaper stuff was good too. I got some shaper bits (blades) in the package deal as well. I've looked around a little, and I think the price Shopsmith has on their website for knew molding knives is really reasonable and probably the safest bet.
I was just curious what brand fit the older styled Shopsmith molding wheel for the sake of shopping for used knives.

Any used ss molder knives are at this time likely the 'older' version.
IIRC the newer ones are thicker.
