I am not home and I need a measurement if anyone has it. I need to know the length of the upper and lower tubes for a Mark 5.

Arg! Way tubes 52" and bench tubes 52 3/4? I think.

John beat me to it. I had to go check. Standard Way Tubes are 52" and the Bench Tubes are 3/4" longer (52 3/4".

Just a side comment and one that may prove to be incorrect. I have been reading the instructions for the Double Tilt and it appears to me that there might be enough separation between Base Arms to use Way and Bench Tubes that are the same length.

The instructions contain words about centering the Way Tubes in the Pivot Arms is what leads me to suspect this.

Yes my instructions said that but, since there are no SS bench and way tubes the same length what is the point?

Help me understand the 'terminology'.

Which part is the 'pivot arm'? The part that the way tubes insert into or the part the bench tubes insert into?

A related question, is there a tube stop in the base part(the part that attaches to the legs).

i.e. what are the two parts referred to as?

The Pivot Arm accepts the Way Tubes. The Base accepts the Bench Tubes. I have not seen it yet but the instructions (which you can download) tell you to insert the Bench Tubes until they make contact with the stop. The instructions emphasize that point.

I worked at centering mine(way tubes). I used a wax marker and put lines on each end to get the same insertion at each end with in reason. You will have a bit of play and you need it to get the adjustment for raising and lowering to work smoothly. I was able to get mine to have a "good" feel after a few tries. This is rather subjective but you will see when you put it together.

For you, maybe there is no point. For me, I think that it could be an important point. If nothing else, I could build a unit with two sets of Way Tubes or Two sets of Bench Tubes.

However, reading more carefully, the instruction elude to movement of the Way Tubes on an order of 3/8" not the 3/4" difference that we now see.
