Advice sought

My father (who passed away in 1983) was an engineer and loved to collect (and sometime use) tools. One of the prides and joys of his life was the Shopsmith (Mark V, I believe), he purchased with ALL the accessories, just before he went into the hospital for open-heart surgery. He did not come back.

I have moved the unit and 5-6 heavy boxes (and many accessories) twice. Almost all of it is still in the original boxes with the shipping labels. As far as I know, it was never turned on. I need to move again and just do not have any use for it -- although I do a lot of home repair, I have no interest in wood working.

I think he paid something like $5,000 for it in '83. I have no real interest in making a dime on it. What I have a great interest is seeing that (to the extent any of it works), it finds a home with someone who appreciates wood working, and in some way would use it has he was going to. It really meant a lot to him. It makes me very sad to think about it, and I am a little teared-up as I write. He was only 59.

I thought appealing to this community would be the best way to find some potential options or a good resolution.

I am in the Annapolis, MD area.

Thank you.

Mark

First condolences!

I am sure the result must have been a shock since a far different outcome was no doubt eagerly anticipated!

Folks here are indeed in line with your desires re finding a good home.

There are a few close by - they will be responding quickly enough.

Again sorry for your loss.

I'm over in Gaithersburg, so maybe 50 minutes to an hour away.

If you want to private message me through the forum with what you've got, l will let you know my level of interest. Frankly, I'd need to sneak any new Shopsmith equipment past the guard!

Obviously there is also Craig's List and eBay, if you are looking to sell.
