Hello!

Hate to bring this up again: there was an earlier thread about removing old, rubber bandsaw tires, which leave rubber and glue on the wheel. That thread evolved into talk about how to get the new urethane tires on the wheel, and the fact that possibly incorrect sizes were shipped by Shopsmith.
I'm still stuck at "how do I remove all the crud and old glue?" I've tried solvents like paint thinner and denatured alcohol, but although they're very efficient in dissolving my latex gloves and removing my finger prints, the old old rubber and glue won't budge. Any suggestions?

I remove the upper and lower wheels and use a 6" or 8" brass wire brush on a grinder/buffer to clean the glue from the bandsaw wheels. Just don't get too aggressive when doing it. Be sure to lubicate the upper wheel bearing with a good brand of wheel bearing grease.
