I had a nasty kickback last night. Caught a piece of Mullberry in my right bicep. Lucky for me I'm made of steel! Anyway, I have been thinking about getting an Incra splitter like this: http://www.incrementaltools.com/Micro_J ... sp2-tk.htm

Anyone here used one? And yes, I know, the kickback was my fault. I had the pushstick on the wrong side of the piece, too close to the fence. Realizing that, prior to the kickback, allowed me to get almost out of the line of fire?! By the way, this was on a craftsman table saw, not my shopsmith. My shopsmith has a great splitter!

I know nothing about the Incra Splitter. But I will strongly recommend the Shopsmith Riving Knife.

I don't know.... I bet he could adapt it with some epoxy, bailing wire and miscellaneous sheet stock!

Okay, on to the INCRA pieces. I don't know about this specific one, but a friend put the plastic ones on his ZCIs. A funky template was included which was not really that helpful but he eventually got the alignment and spacing correct. The plastic ones deformed easily (a misplaced 2x4 was enough to bend it over) so I presume that is why INCRA moved to a metal core.

I found myself in Woodcraft today and picked up a set. Seem ok, will post a review when I have the time to install and test them. I agree 100% with Dusty, I DO prefer the Shopsmith riving knife. Never had a hint of kickback with it.
The attached pic is day 3, do not want to do this again as next time it could be my teeth!

Ouch! Be tender with it. It will heal soon but hopefully the lesson will be remembered for a long time.

I have had a couple significant injuries due to kick backs (actually due to the poor judgement that led to kick backs). I have not had one in a long while now. Maybe I finally have learned.

Mine, by the way, were not the result of alignment problems like so many will claim. Mine were all preventable had I been practicing good judgement.

The neat thing was after it hit my arm it deflected to my chest where I actually caught it! No bruise there!
