I have 2 12" sanding disc from the last 2 SS CL recuses, one from a 51 ER, Aluminum, with the old Garnet sand paper on it. They other a Steel one from the Grayling, with a self adhesive backing paper. I put both out in the summer sun today for a couple hours, then the sanding sheet peeled right off, to see the glue mess on the plate surface, steel one was pretty clean, but the old add the adhesive to the Aluminum one was bad . I put a sheet of news paper on both, and I have Naphtha, Mineral Spirits and DN Alcohol in little squirt bottles. I saturated the news paper with MS since it has the slowest evap rate of the 3,
I let it sit for an hour and added some more to keep it saturated. A hour the same, 30 minutes later wiped them off with the news paper and got 50% if it off, then just took a Putty Knife and the rest cane off EASY, then just did a wipe 2 times with a rag with some MS on it to get rid of any tackiness.
