band saw set up question
I just bought a used Mark V wich included a jointer and bandsaw attachment. This unit had 2 previous owners and seems to be in good shape,I think it was new in 1990. This is my first shopsmith and I read the manual supplied regarding bandsaw set up but not sure on the front to back allignment of the blade in relation to the table. I think it is the automatic tracking that has got me a bit confused. I feel I need to have the upper bearing set further back to get me cutting at a right angle to table. Side to side I have adjusted the table with the allan adjusting screw but if I adjust my table for the front to back right angle I would have to shim my table mounts from the underside. Manual doesnt seem to address this or maybee I am just missing something obvious. Thanks for any help...wayne
In your manual, there should be a section on "Adjusting the Blade Guide Rollers," and then subsections on the auto-track roller, the lower blade guide roller, and the upper blade guide roller. In the subsection on the "Upper Blade Guide Roller," it tells you that the roller must be no more than 1/64" away from the back of the blade and that "this distance should remain the same no matter what the position of the upper blade guide is above the table." Immediately after that, it describes how to adjust the position and tilt of the upper blade guide post. Do this adjustment, then check the front-to-back table alignment. It will probably take care of the problem you describe.
