At prox. 7:07 Susan changes the Mark 5 to drill press mode like she was moving an empty cardboard box!

On my inherited rusty 'greenie', the headstock is HEAVY. It's doable, but it's nowhere -near- as effortless as she makes it out to be. So...

a) Was she an East German shotput champion in her spare time?

b) Are newer machines a LOT easier to flip upright

c) Is there something I need to adjust or repair on my machine?

Your machine is just fine. Like ER said (sorta), note where the carriage and headstock were located when she went to drill press mode. She had the bulk of the weight left of center (near the pivot point). What she ended with would not have been a comfortable drill press position. The table was too far to her right (thus too close to the floor) when upright.

Consider adding the lift assist.

By Gollie! and Sorry! This is the first time I have to disagree with Dusty.

I always place the table in it's lowest position. The Headstock in an appropriate location for drilling.

1) It makes lifting a whole lot easier.
2) I always sit on a stool when drilling vertically.

You would love a Mark VII.

Especially if your Mark VII has a working gear rack like mine. I run it to the right and tip it up. Then crank it up to a useful height. If the gear racks had been made of a more durable material they would be something MarkV series owners would lust after.

That action is, IMO, long over due but since it does not happen I spend a lot less time here. I guess you could call it "avoidance" but that is the best I can do.

The objectionable posts(as well as some responses to them) have disappeared.

Doubt they will be missed.

I am more tolerant than many here, but they were uncomfortable to me!

Hence the responses.

Apologies if I offended anyone. At the risk of sounding like one of my kids, I took my cue from some of the replies--which didn't feel -that- risque. But what do I know. Message received.
