Today a very close friend asked me if I would make a matching set of cremation urns, for him and his wife.
He just wants a simple box, made out of scrap wood

I know a couple of you have made urns, and posted pictures on the form.
could anyone give me an idea of what the inside demotions should be.
my friend is about 5'-6'' and his wife is under 5'.
I honestly have no idea how big I need to make them.

I just made one a couple of months ago for my brother. It's dimensions were governed by the size of the container his ashes were in for the inside dimensions and the size of the vault for the outside. If it will be for display and for interment, no restrictions on the outside.

From what little I could find. You need about one cubic inch, per pound of the person.

My father in law was a large man. He and my mother in law, who predeceased him were cremated and the urns were put in niches in a memorial wall at the cemetery.
After the ceremony my brother in law got a message on his answering machine asking what they should do with the overage as when they had filled the urn they had "a cup too much".

Where is Chris when we need him?

I dont want to be insensitive here but my dad was the manager at a Cemetery and Crematory, the only thing left are some large bones that get crushed/pulverized that is what you get as ashes. FWIW

Yup, bone meal. Personally, I think I'd like mine to be used to fertilize a nice flower garden, so that I'm recycled into something beautiful. Not a veggie garden, mind you ... that would be just too weird!

That seems to be the standard used. Commercially built urns consider 200 cu in as a standard size which should accomodate a 200 pound person. That is the size I used a few years ago when I made a pair of urns. Inside dimensions are 10x5x4".
