10E / 10ER noticed something and now I'm wondering

I'm starting to get back on my 10ER project and one thing I noticed was different on some 10E's that I see which is different then the 10ER's. The motor mount has a flat edge and a V edge. On the ones that are 10E's the mount is 180 degrees different then on the 10ER.
Anyone know anything about that?
Advertised as a 10E and the manual for 10E has pictures showing it like this so I'm guessing that is how it was intended to be.

I had not noticed that before.
Question is, what is the 'v' shape for?

The 10ER manual shows the V towards the belt every where in the manual.
All of the pictures in the 10E manual show the V away from the belt. However, the exploded parts page shows it towards the belt.
I have an original 10E preliminary manual and it shows the V towards the belt.
I would go with the exploded parts view in the 10E manual as correct orientation. V towards the belt. Why all the other pictures show it the other way is anyone's guess. My guess is that someone put it that way when the pictures were taken and nobody noticed.

Good question. I have always wondered that myself.

Ed,
I have always been meaning to ask. What program do you use to add you're own marks to pictures?

One of mine has the "V" to the right and the other has the "V" to the left.

Both work fine.
Note in the second picture that the setscrew that holds the motor bracket post is in the center of the "V" .
So the width at the center of the "V" needs to be the same as the headstock for access to the two motor bracket setscrews, the width at the outer edges is wider to accommodate a greater range of motors. Having all the extra length at one end allows it to be mounted in either direction which ever is appropriate for the motor used.
Note, having the excess slot to the right gives a handy place to route the power cord.

That's curious. The Illustrated parts lists match in some releases between 10E and 10ER, but the illustrations from the Users Guides 10E vs 10ER are clearly reversed in all the photos between the two models.
I realize some 10E's were factory upgraded to 10ER's back in the day. I suspect they could have not changed the orientation of the mount during the upgrades on some of those, and some were just reassembled through the years with the alternate orientation.

I just looked at my 2 here at moms, SS tag sez ER, both have the V on the pulley side. My bet would be as stated here, Allen Wrench access. I cant see any other reason for it, but who knows, I drink Wood Alcohol
