Hi All

I have the Lift Assist installed and now I find that I can not get the quill to extend enough to meet the live center on the MARK V’s Lathe Tailstock. This prevents me from checking the alignment of center to center. I can not tell if it's off high = low nor side to side.

Did I do something wrong when I installed the Lift Assist or is there some trick to check the alignment that I'm not aware of?

I do believe you did everything right, you do lose some lathe capacity and this alignment check also with the lift assist. It has been suggested that you attach the drill chuck with a longer drill bit to set your center points. Good Luck!

Thanks -- That makes sense -- the drill chuck and a brad point pit -- sounds like a plan.

If you are using a live center there is also a 1 1/2" spacer you can buy #514704 that fits into the live center. It was made for the lathe duplicator system and can be viewed on its parts page. It will give you a little more room on that side but will also limit the full 34" length capacity.
