I just found this Mark V...is this a good deal?

I know nothing about these things. This one is for sale for $200. I assume its a Mark V because the manual says Mark V. I have just started getting into woodworking and my Dad says these things are great. I would like you guys to tell me if this is a good deal for $200 and if all the parts are there? I have a Harbor Freight mini-lathe but I would think that the lathe on this Shopsmith would be leaps and bounds better? Is the lathe there in the picture? I really can't tell. Please help!

That is lovingly known as a "Goldie". Few here like to give advise on prices, but you could spend 200 on the bandsaw itself. It would be a little high on CR for the BS, but it is a price range. It looks pretty complete, others far more knowledgeable will chime in shortly, but yes. It is a little underpowered, unless it has been upgraded. Do you know the owner, could you get straight answers from him. Are there any other tools with it (jointer, belt sander, etc)?

To my eyes it looks like a Greenie, not a Goldie that preceded the Greenine.
If it runs and no bearing squealing with the Band saw it is an excellent price. $200 for it without the BS in my area is the bottom price if running and good shape. The caster sets go for 40$ ish on E Bay alone.
DONT turn the Speed Dial unless it is running!!!!!!!!!

I have some more information. Owner found an email where her Dad talked with Shopsmith. This is a reply from Shopsmith to his email: "Serial number 307896 was manufactured in 1955. It is a Gilmer drive system, and is considered a 500 model" She also told me that the band saw was purchased separately about 10 years ago for $400.

Just to keep the record straight the Greenie preceded the Goldie.
