Actually two photos. Issue #256 pages 57 and 58.

Interesting use of the drill press. He wanted to drill tenon holes through the seat of a shop stool. The legs were designed to splay out from the seat. He set it up to drill both the X and Y angles at the same time. He tilted the Shopsmith table and added a sloped wood ramp at right angles to the table's tilt. A problem setup.

This is the caption from the drilling photo. "Precise angles are important for the legs. The drill press lets you use use the table to set one angle and a simple ramp jig to set the other. Make sure the seat's centerline is square to the drill press table".

Guess the author only thinks in left and right. If it had been me, I would have only used the Shopsmith table to drill the compound hole. Forget the jig! It would be simple to keep opposite holes (or their markings) square to the table.

Here is a post I did a years or so back when I made a small stool and needed to drill some holes for the three legs at an angle. Some of you will remember it and a few may have not seen it....

When I did the drilling I had an issue but as we went through my efforts a better way came up and if I were to make another one I'd go that way rather then the way I did. Yes even I live and learn.
