Looks like it was an excellent trip. Thanks for the videos...They almost make one believe the river hasn't changed much since Thoreau's day! Good for you for putting the Slow Boat to such fine use.

You were so lucky! I have never seen a moose in the wild. I have been in the area where you might find one but it never happened.

The slow boat was a long project and a lot of work but it clear you are now enjoying it. Has it needed any repairs this year?

There's one deep scratch on the bottom that it got on this latest trip when I picked a bad line and got into super shallow water with the canoe heavily loaded. I won't know for sure until I give it a good going over, but it will either need a patch or a little epoxy flowed into the scratch. And it definitely needs more varnish!

Right Ed, that was one of the route's that Thoreau took and wrote about in the posthumously published "The Maine Woods." We stopped at "Thoreau's Island" campsite, the same island Thoreau camped on. Of course Thoreau just sat in the bottom of his guide's canoe and the guide (native American) did all the work!
