Evening! I thought I'd share my latest birdhouse project! A simple build using as many tools as possible! Note to the safety police - yes, I know I should have taken off my watch and ring. My glasses are shatterproof, but not safety glasses. Be better next time.

But I was wondering why you resorted to using pallet wood, like Steve Ramsey and his fellow Californians. Or hardwood-deprived desert rats like our own rjent.

Until I checked CL lumber prices in your 'hood. Bummer!

I try not to buy wood! Sometimes I can't resist, but usually it's free wood from a neighbor's tree or a friend of a friend situation. In addition to the Shopsmith band saws i also have a large Grizzley, so I can pretty much mill logs to a decent size. I keep the Shopsmith bandsaws busy for resawing on one and on the other I keep a small blade on it for crafty things!
For the purpose of this video project, however, the "contest" required the use of a pallett. Palletts are a PITA, and I rarely use them. If it is from an unknown source, you never know where it's been or what it may have been contaminated with. This was a safe, untreated pallet!

BTW, how do you speed up the video to save time? Can't figure that out .... :/

I think that bird houses are often under rated as a learning tool as well as fun simple projects and as a big aid to our feathered friends. I need to get busy cranking out some. Some I built some years ago are now falling apart (much like me) just from age and weathering.
Some of mine don't have any woodworking to them. I have a building near the house where I have a row of small baskets attached up under the roof overhang for bird nesting. They seem to like them. I picked up a few small baskets at yard sales and sprayed them heavily with clear plastic spray sealer and screwed them to the wall. They are pretty much out of the weather.
Most of the houses I need to replace were mostly for bluebirds and mounted to fence post out around the farm. I want to try a few lathe turned bird houses this winter. Most I've seen were glued up like a small keg then turned fully round.
One thing I learned about bird houses long ago is that few birds have read the books telling what kind of house is best for each kind and will build where ever and how ever they damn well please.

Yup, guilty as charged, I play the banjo (badly)! I own eight of them and can't get any to obey my fingers. If you click onto my channel you can get a few early clips!
In regards to the video, I use Nero 2016 for editing. It has an "effects" tab, and the options include fast forward and slo-mo. I just discovered that this week!
I don't think there are "winners" in the contest, just randomly drawn prizes.

Outstanding, although I don't think sax and banjo would really go together . I used to play harmonica in a band with banjo and guitars. Now that is a nice sound ....
