Yesterday, I stumbled on to a estate sale involving a great number of Shopsmith components. Among the many pieces I bought was Shopsmith's Cross-Cut Sliding Table. It was brand new, in-the-box, never opened.
When I got it home, I opened it up and compared the parts list to what was in the box. I was surprised, shocked really, to see there was no guide bar included, despite the fact that "Guide Bar (Shopsmith) is listed on the parts list as a "Optional Purchase."
I continued to read the instructions and noted the first item listed to do in instructions is "ATTACH THE GUIDE BAR." I writing this because I don't understand how one can use this cross-cut sled without a guide bar. I don't see how the guide bar is "optional purchase." Furthermore, Shopsmith does not list a part number for the guide bar. I was hopeful that I would be able to use my new cross-cut sled today, but, instead I waiting for the new guide bar to be shipped.
If you have this table, I would like to hear how you use the table without the guide bar, or if you just made your own guide bar.

Is it item #516524? http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... gtable.htm They are made for different tables.

If the original owner had purchased the Cross-Cut Sliding Table 555535, I believe you would have the Guide Bar. This table was also sold without the guide bar (516524) for use on tables other than the Shopsmith.

I made two runners (one for each miter slot) using hardwood.

Two guide bars does not make sense with 'THAT" sliding table. It does not straddle the blade.

It makes perfect sense to me or I would not have done it. If you don't want two guide bars, don't install the second one.

The miter track that I added to an extension table probably doesn't make sense to you either.

But of course that makes very much sense(for the sled you had).

It does not make sense for the sled under discussion. It is intended for use only to the right of the blade(only the right miter gauge slot is used.).

I agree that excellent modifications can be made to improve upon the SS designs, but any discussion of those mods need to be clearly identified as such or confusion shall reign.

They also sell an auxiliary table if one did not come in your collection. You pretty much need one of these or make your own. See:
