Need motor advice

I recently picked up a Mk 5 500 that is in need of a motor. Can a motor from sources other than SS be adapted to this application? The SS motors are just simply to expensive at this point in time for a $30 machine. Thanks for any help.

MK 5/V motors are pretty much unique. eBay is your best bet. They are on there all the time at fairly reasonable prices compared to a new one from the MS.
