I am putting together the ER Semi Restoration tonight all has been going well, until I went to slide on the speed changer and realized where it bolts/mounts to the hollow headless set screw, I dont have one. This ER came with just the 3 step pulley set up. Then I compared it to my other one. The motor rod set screw looks about 5/16th and the hollow set screw that goes in the same hole that the S C mounting nut goes is about 5/16 diam. This one the motor rod set screw is a 1/4" diam. So how to mount the SC? I am thinking, and interrupted with mom to bed, get a shorter motor rod set screw to give me more thread area for a 1/4" bolt cut to proper length to screw into that threaded area to hold the SC. I have to give it more thought, and listen to yours.

The hole in the headstock s/b 3/8-16.

I was off a bit, it is 3/8ths on the new one I am setting up, the eyes and day to day experience is off a bit, I maybe able to get what I need with the hollow one at the hardware store.

It is a threaded tube, 3/8ths threads on the OD and ahollow tube to get an Allen wrench through to get to the motor mounting rod set screw.

That doesn't sound original. It should just be a long set screw (P 1013) that replaces the original short motor mounting rod set screw.

You are correct my mistake, well that made that simple, already been to the hardware store and got one, did not start on drilling it out. Life is good

Lover, sometimes, I don't even use that long
setscrew, just use the stock one.

Warning, when moving the headstock to the right,
slide the speedchanger with it.

Also, if you DO use the long setscrew, and the
nut, leave the nut REAL loose, like 1/8th inch
loose. If you bolt the speedchanger tight to the
headstock, things will NOT move, and you'll break
stuff. (Don't ask how I know!)

I do leave the nut loose, and Skips washer between the SC and HS. I have notice on 3 of them now, and all waxed up, they slide real nice to the left
by pushing on the HS, to the right I have to push on the motor, if I push on the HS it is a no go.
