I ordered a new band saw cover, should be here next week, it has a dust port built into the door, but it is I believe a 2 1/2 inch port. I run a Harbor Freight dust collect with a drop above the BS and it uses a 4 inch hose. My question is what is every body doing in this situation, running an adapter from 4 to 2 1/2 at the port or using a short 2 1/2 inch hose to the drop. I am thinking it will work better to run the four inch all the way to the BS port. Any advice is welcome, thanks

My thought has always run the largest hose as close to the machine as you can. So I agree with Skizzity. I use a 2 1/2" elbow also so the hose is out of the way

I am also running the Harbor Freight dust collector (larger unit) and agree that running the 4 inch hose to the device is appropriate. However I used a reducer from 4 inch to shop vac size I think it is 2 1/4 inch. To then attach to the device I went to the plumbing aisle and bought the 2 inch rubber patch section. It's great because it is flexible and can expand but can also easily be sealed with the hose clamp. Then I found some hose clamps that had flat thumb screws and this makes it easy to attach and tighten without tools. If you want I can send pictures of how I did it.

For dust collection, it is a balancing act depending on the machine. Very hard to figure on the machine, how air tight, and run of hose, ect. Not a pure Engineering science. Well I guess it could be, but then just change a blade/tooth count ec and Oh Well, back to the slide rule!!!
