SS VII with SS Mark V Headstock

I just unloaded a group of SS components for $100.00 that I couldn't resist. Its a SS Mark VII that someone has put a Mark V head stock on. It runs great but someone screwed up the speed control turning with the motor idle probably. Included is a SS Jig Saw, great condition less blade insert, a SS Jointer, less the feather board great condition a little rust on the bed, a SS Planer, great condition, motor runs great. Who ever installed the Mark V head stock, installed new way tubes also. A little rust on the tubes but not much.
The guy even drove about 45 miles from Rose, Oklahoma to Broken Arrow and he and his brother-in-law unloaded it for me. You just never know???

Very nice score!!!!
FWIW the jointer never had a 'feather board guard' but the older solid one.
The reason for the 'new' way tubes is no gear rack.

"what's her name" may serve you with an eviction notice, I'll bet she can remember your name.
The speed control was in the shoe box in the photo. I have never had one apart before. Real interesting little gadget. The drive pulley was out as far as it would go, had to put a board in the inspection hole and pry on it while turning the spindle with a disc sander to get it to move.
Can someone tell me if the bevel of the free floating gear on pork chop faces toward the power head of faces out. It seem to make a difference as to how much contact it makes with the little gear on the control knob? I sure don't want to strip it.
one other question. When the gear shaft is screwed all the way in, is that the normal position for the fastest speed or the slowest speed?

Yes and that is the one it has
never had.
The bevel on the gear goes facing in. "Final answer".

It was on my other jointer when I bought it so I thought it was a standard piece of equipment. My mistake, but I still want a guard on this jointer whether it be the one shown or a "Magna" cover.
