Pens from antlers
My son-in-law brought me some deer antlers. Any pointers on using it for pens? What finish should I use??
I have no experience with antler, but I have a pen turning book that talks about it. Turing Pens And Pencils by Kip Christensen and Rex Burningham talks about using antler on pages 89-91. In short, they say that it turns like wood, but it dulls tools faster. Also, it has a pourous inner core and has to be reinforced with CA glue. I hope this helps.
