I'm about to begin a project for my Rotary Club. We have a weekly raffle and have been using a beach pail to pull the tickets out of. I thought a turned bucket (in the shape of a pot) might be a tad classier, so stupid me volunteered to make it! First thing was to make a "wedgie sled" - Done! I made this for my Craftsman (1964ish) table saw, but kept getting poor fitting joints. I adjusted and readjusted the sled only to find out the problem was a table saw top that wasn't flat. The sled would dip to the right while passing the blade. Redid the runner and slapped the sled on the Powerpro, perfect on the first try!I figure I'll need about 10 rings of varying diameters to glue up. Now the hard part, planning!
By the way, that ring is just being held by a rubber band, no glue yet!

Nice! How to you set the "fences" on your sled?

I purchased "wedgies" that you use to set the angles. Takes the guess work and microadjustments out of the equation. A real time saver. I got the plans and wedgies here: http://www.segeasy.com/wedgiesledplan1.pdf

That looks like a great way to "skin a cat". So when do we get to see a segmented turning?

Soon, i hope. I hope to start glueing up segments into rings for stacking this week/weekend.

In the works, 18 segments per ring, plan calls for 11 rings. Flying blind here!!!

Glue-up is lookng good! Nary a gap to be seen, at least not at the pic resolution.

I don't think I've ever seen the hardware in the pic before. What's the plexiglass thing? And the black thing underneath the glue-up?

Chris, I turned a few bowls in HS, but not got into it since, some of the things I see here and other forums is almost beyond my creative imagination.
It looks great.

Are you using the longworth chuck to center the pieces? Is is it home made?
Got plans if home made?

The plexiglas thing is a longworth chuck- simply used to help center the rings during glue up.it does not go on the lathe, stays on a table. The rod sticking uo is spring loaded (called a "segment stomper"). The black item under the glue up is simply a faceplate with a waste (glue) block attached. I've learned a lot during this project...
