Gentlemen:

I am in search of plans to build a wooden card deck shuffler for Canasta. I would think that a 6 deck capability would be preferable. Anyone here ever hear of such a thing or see a plan for one thru the years? I would rather have a hand crank to an electric motor or batteries.

I'm no help on this one. I have seen shufflers and used one but it was tin and plastic and battery electric...
BTW, years ago my father used to call the red butted baboons "Canasta players".

My two card games were Euchre and Canasta. I preferred Canasta when visiting with friends because there was time to visit as you played. At work we used to play a lot of Euchre because it was extremely fast and we could get in several games even during a 10 minute break or during lunch break. It was usually too brutal for newbies. Euchre is the only thing I ever played for money and I never lost money, had some good partners, I would never bet unless playing with one of them. Then an engineer friend and I got to playing quick games of Chess... Then other guys started bringing in sets and it was funny to see all of these tough factory guys (mid 1960's, some of these guys would scare you in a dark alley ) all lined up down a long row of tables playing Chess. Most of them picked it up really fast.

Now Sheeps Head, is my game, 4 handed cut throat, none of this 5 handed with a looser partner. Been there all night, always a brides maid and never the bride and lost my pants. 4 handed, they called me the Claw, as far as picking the blinds. We would play No tricker, Snieder and the win, you could bury 30-40 points in it at times. Not a social game, have to count points and pay attention to what cards have been played and not. We played for quarters; 25, 50,and 75 cents and double on the bump; loser, blind picker bays double.

Martin, in wood, that would be an engineering feat. Maybe have to shuffle one deck at a time.
The plan and build would be quite interesting. Good luck and keep us in mind as you progress.

I'm thinking the pivot points without the gearing and wider and taller card bins for more decks. Don't know if I'll ever get to 6 decks, but I should get to 4.
