Has anyone replaced the free standing scroll saw belt with a standard O ring? My wife's scroll saw belt broke yesterday. As usual they were out of stock at SS but Anita seemed surprised by that and said it might not be too long to get them.

The manual calls it an O ring belt but I don't think it is a standard O ring. It doesn't stretch very much and appears to have been originally clear.

I am just looking for a quick temporary solution in case it takes for ever to get the SS belt. I ordered two belts so that should last as long as I/she will be around.

I would not expect a drive belt to be stretchy.

Scroll down until you get to the ready-to-use O-ring belts. If what you need isn't there, the connect-your-own length options might be attractive.

I will be watching this post with interest,my belt recently broke as well.
In a pinch, you can install a bolt into the center shaft and chuck it in a cordless drill to keep the saw going. I think that's where the adapter for the power coupler would attach if the saw was MarkV powered. Not elegant, but it let me finish my project.
If you do find a source for an O ring substitute please post the source. Would be nice to have a back up supplier just in case.

I never thought to check eBay. That will certainly work if need be.

Yesterday when I checked the order status after getting off the phone with Anita it said "Order Being Processed" and "Currently Out of Stock".

This morning the status is "Order Being Processed - Should ship within a few days", but it still also says "Currently Out of Stock".

I guess I will wait a few days and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.

When does the status "Order Being Processed" change. I believe it happens when "Order Shipped". That could be a long time from now. For $13 I'd be ordering from Reibles' source.

That is true but I think you misread what I said the order status is today.

The order status today says...

"Order Being Processed - Should ship within a few days"

I wish you luck and a speedy delivery.

BUT - It has been my experience with Shopsmith that when an item is in stock it will ship the next business day after the status becomes "Order Being Processed". Call me a pessimist!
