Morris Chair Project

A couple pictures of my latest project.
This is the first of a pair for our son and DIL.
Delivered it last Friday.

Nice looking chair and foot stool. Great job.
How did you achieve the contour in the arm rests? Are they a lamination of thin stock or cut from thick stock (band saw presumably)?
The beaded upholstery looks great too!

The arms are 3 each 3/8X5-1/2 glued over a curved form. Took nearly all my Jorgies to clamp them. They were resawn from 8/4 white oak bought from our friends on Palo Verde.

This is a project that I want to do soon. I've got a couple of spots in the house where a Morris chair would be perfect. If I'm careful, and take my time, they MIGHT come out looking half as nice as yours!

Gorgeous chair, Gene! Thanks for posting! Selection of oak for the chair proved to make it a "standout".
These are truly projects that your son and daughter-in-law will cherish for years. (Not forgetting your pride!!)
Here's a big ATTA BOY, GENE!
A question that has had me concerned when I think of making one of these: How did you do such a beautiful job on the seat cushions?

The cushions were done by an upholstery shop. No way would either my wife or I ever contemplate doing upholstery. A skill way beyond our ken.

I knew from the pictures of the material (hmmm that was a while back
) that the grain was going to be eye popping
