Most of you have either read “The Godfather” or seen the movie. What would have happened if Tom Hagan, a qualified lawyer, and the consigliere (legal advisor) to the Corleone Mafia family became the top cop of NYC, the Commissioner? And then Don Corleone was leading in the polls to be elected to Mayor of NYC? If Don Corleone became Mayor what would have happened to NYC? See any similarities where today we have a top cop in the US who ignores the law, even meets with Mrs. Corleone (aka Slick Willma) in private just before her husband might be indicted (but isn’t) and does what is best for a few, not the nation?

Would that conversation resemble; "I will make you an offer; but you will have to prevent disclosure"

Or an updated Mission Impossible dialog might be applicable; “As usual, should you or any member of your team be discovered, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This email will self-destruct in five seconds…”

Thoughts?

Would Cordell Hull have been permitted to have as his Chief of Staff a naturalized German American citizen if that German American citizen's parents were still in Nazi Germany and were high ranking members of the Nazi Party?

Of course, if he was vetted and he probably was. Many high ranking members of the Nazi party became members at the beginning for socio/political reasons (thus they moved UP in the ranks) and many were disaffected by Hitler and supported his ouster or assassination. Plus, you don't eliminate the offspring of someone from any office because of the parents.
