For those of you in love with the Wixey angle gauge - here's another you might find interesting/ Doesn't have the same magnetic needs as the Wixey/

Looks like a good angle gauge for some tasks, however, I have a couple of concerns with it. First, the 10 1/2" arm limits it's usefulness to large projects as it may not fit in tighter smaller spaces. Secondly, the rounded intersection of the two arms limits it too larger projects. When using a gauge like this you can't get the intersection joint into tight spaces. I have the same problem with a 6" adjustable square getting into small tight spaces.
For the price it would be a nice tool to have. I bet everyone would agree that "you can't have enough tools"

I got my "e-mail" from Lee Valley advising that they received more and are still offering them at the special sale price of $19.95. I considered the size restrictions, but am serioursly considering one.

What I am really looking for is an angle gauge that is absolute; that is to say, not relative to a reference surface. I'm looking for something digital that would do what my 8' bubble level does or my 3" bubble level that hangs on a string.

Until I really go digital, I jusy might stick with this. It only has six different angles but until I can cut all of them accurately I am not sure I need more. It is accurate to .083 degrees. That's +- 5 arc minutes if you're into that sort of thing. This used to be the Poly-Gauge (516251) but I don't see it in the Shopsmith catalog anymore. Oh well.

I too wanted something easy and very accurate. Large digital readout too. While younger than you, my eyes don't act like it.

Magnets last longer if they are spanned with a piece of iron. If you make a small steel bracket on the wall, and install it perfect level, to store your Wixey on, you will not only make the magnets last longer, you can zero it before removing from the bracket and thus store perfect level in it's memory.
