New Owner of a 1982 Mark V 500, and have some questions...

Hello all,
I just purchased a used MK V 500 for $150. It runs, it's not very rusty, and came with a sanding disk and a band-saw.
Here are the questions:
Is there a good (safe) replacement accessory coupler available?

The I believe the handle for the Band-saw table tilt to be broken and a quill handle was used in it's place, how do I repair that? (pictures are available).

I believe this to be a stock unit, is there anything that should be checked immediately before I start normal use? Assuming no maintenance has been done to the machine.

Lastly, are there any clamping devices used for the drill press mode and the horizontal boring?

Thanks!

Congratulations on getting a great machine. And, welcome to the forum.
Both the accessory coupler and a new handle for the tilt mechanism can be purchased from Shopsmith.
Here is a link to a collection of YouTube videos covering all aspects of maintenance on the Shopsmith.

Welcome! More experienced and seasoned forum members usually get to be the first to answer new members questions such as yours, but I'll give it a try.

1. Accessory couplers are available thru Shopsmith (aka the Mother Ship), or thru ebay.
2. Can't help you with broken bandsaw table tilt, but if you post pictures, I'm sure others can. Posting pictures can be a challenge, but do a search for that topic and you will find some help. I do remember that max height is about 1000 pixels, max width about 2000, and max 2MB size.
3. Before using, lube the sheaves and check the belts for wear. The first two posts under the Maintenance and Repair Section of this forum are "sticky" posts ... they always remain at top of list, and are jam packed with useful tips, hints, and advice for new owners (and all owners for that matter)
4. Think what you are referring to are drill press vices, and yes, the MS and other companies I believe offer various models ... I don't have one, but here again, others will be soon to chime in.

Welcome to the forum. A good place to start would be the sticky posts at the top of the Maintenance and Repair section. There are links in several of the posts to information you will want to review before using you new machine.

Just about all of the parts for these machines are available from Shop Smith.

Lubricate before use and Do Not turn the speed control without the shafts being turned.

Shopsmith has new power couplers when you need one.

Both of the original power couplers that came with my Shopsmith broke over the years as my machine gets many hours of use here. I replaced them with new ones in the 90s, and if I remember correctly, I have bought another one since then. Shopsmith always has them when I need one.
