I purchased a shopsmith and it has a bandsaw with a metal cover. I can't seem to find any information on it. I have several questions. (1) Was it made by shopsmith?(2) Is it any good? Should I buy a regular shopsmith bandsaw?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
John

A pix might help. ;)

Does it have a metal base and a plastic cover, and does it say shopsmith on it anywhere?

have 3 of different eras, none have metal front covers, backs are non magnetic, appear to be aluminum.

No name or model or serial number that I can find. If you can tell me where to look I will.
Thanks for the replies!

A closer look reveals it may be a clone.

Not necessarily bad, but raises some questions.

Need a look inside!

Yep I think the cover knobs are a give away, SS are round and aluminum with many miner groves in the outer diameter.
All 3 of mine have a small tag on the lower left side on the back housing with the serial # and on the front cover in the upper wheel area a 5x5" plate with the red circle SS logo.

Also my handles to raise the upper block/blade bearing have the red SS handle, not a black one.

Shopsmith has had different color handles and knobs over the years, but not a metal cover that i know of.
