Although I have made a lot of indoor crafts haven't made many outdoor decorations. My wife has put in her order for a couple and I was wondering what if anything I should do to edges of the plywood to help seal them. They will be painted and cleared. I was wondering if putting a coat of glue on the edges or the whole thing would help protect it. They will be about 16"x24".

Unless using exterior/marine grade plywood I would use solid wood. If not I sure would coat with Tite Bond 2 or 3 and then Poly over it!!

Poly before paint or after or both. Anything different for edges?

Then there is epoxy.

TBIII on the edges. Use oil based paint. Poly over the paint.

Tite Bond II is water proof if not submerged constantly.

You may want to look at MDO or HDO, we use it periodically for job-site signs, that material will last forever, it is waterproof.

I made a couple of out side shelf's a while back, and to seal the edges of the plywood I used auto body filler, ( bondo )it filled the voids and sanded and painted over very easy.

How has it held up?
