I've been learning how to use this device and managed to make a small box out of maple. The joints fit together well, but I noticed that on the back side of each piece there is a small amount of tear out. The dado blades were just sharpened, so the culprit isn't a dull blade. I supposed the tear out could be sanded out, but it would require a substantial amount of sanding. Anyone else encountered this? Ideas?

I don't own that jig, but a scrap piece behind the work piece eliminates tear out for most sawing or milling operations.

if the piece by the miter gage is wider than the cutter it will tear out. Like he said a piece behind it will help too. Even tape will do the trick but another hassle. When you find a good project to build with the system let us see them. I have one too but need a nice project other than a box.

I recently just made a simple box joint jig using the miter gauge and scrap wood. Sadly I only had the stock ripping blade ((need to order a 5/8" arbor)) but even with that the end product was very satisfying. I agree, use a sacrificial board to help with tear out
